SCORE Project
Regional Connections is pleased to announce a new opportunity for employers and for older workers in South Central Manitoba.
The project is called South Central Opportunity for Re-Integration to employment (SCORE) and is a one-year pilot project concluding at the end of March, 2012. The SCORE project is funded by the Government of Canada and the Manitoba Government and is being delivered by Regional Connections, an organization serviced through the Winkler & District Chamber of Commerce.
The SCORE project targets unemployed workers who are between the ages of 50 and 65 years of age and eligible to work in Canada, who are seeking full-time or part-time employment.
Employer Advantage:
- Access to wage subsidies and gap training support to assist this group of new employees
Worker Advantage:
- Increase employability through training opportunities that will enhance worker’s ability to access new part-time or full-time employment
- Help workers in assessing their marketable skills
- Assist workers with resume writing, interview skills and job market research
Employers may have applicants between the ages of 50 and 65 who are excellent candidates to fill vacancies within their organizations. The SCORE project can assist employers by providing a wage subsidy for six months. The wage subsidy program is set up as follows:
- Employee’s wage is subsidized 50% for the first 3-month period of
- Employment/ training
- Employee’s wage is subsidized 25% for the next 3-month period of employment/training
- After the 6 month period the employer covers 100% of the wages.
Additionally, the SCORE project can cover the costs of training for these new employees such as Work Place Health and Safety or First Aid training. Financial support for these types of courses will depend on the overall costs to the employer.
Liz Moffatt has been hired as the Employment Counselor and will be the contact person for employers and for potential employees.
